The vaccination of the professors in Cosenza has been suspended. But at the moment it has not been determined that there is a link between the vaccine and the problems detected (ANSA)

The Italian Medicines Agency Aifa has decided today, as a precaution, to issue a ban on the use of batch ABV2856 of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Doses of this batch have been distributed throughout Italy.

This is what ANSA learns.

There are about 500 thousand doses contained in each batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Mario Draghi had a telephone conversation with Ursula von der Leyen

.

From the conversation - sources from Palazzo Chigi report - it emerged that there is no evidence of a link between the cases of thrombosis recorded in Europe and the administration of the Astrazeneca vaccine.

In the phone call with Draghi, President von der Leyen "announced that the EMA has initiated a further accelerated review" on the vaccines of Astrazeneca.

Aifa "is carrying out all the necessary checks, acquiring clinical documentation in close collaboration with the NAS and the competent authorities. The samples of this lot will be analyzed by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità".

Aifa will promptly communicate "any new information should become available".

Aifa reserves the right to take further measures, where necessary, also in close coordination with the EMA, the European pharmaceutical agency.

At present, no causal link has been established between the administration of the vaccine and these events.

A

suspected case

 would have been

registered in Sicily

.

A soldier on duty in Augusta (Sr), Stefano Paternò, 43, originally from Corleone, but resident in Misterbianco (Ct) died yesterday morning of a cardiac arrest in his home. The previous day the soldier

had undergone the first dose of Astrazeneca vaccine from the same batch to which AIFA refers

.

On the case the Prosecutor of Syracuse has opened an investigation and ordered an autopsy.

The Prosecutor's Office of Syracuse

ordered the seizure of the lot

and asked Aifa to take the relevant measures.

"This is

a lot that has been marketed both in Italy and in Europe

. We are investigating and unfortunately it is not easy given the numerous subjects involved. We must not create alarmism but our choices are dictated by the protection of public health", he said. 'ANSA the chief prosecutor of Syracuse, Sabrina Gambino.

The Public Prosecutor of Catania has opened a file, at the moment without suspects and hypothesizing the manslaughter, on the death of Davide Villa, 50, an agent of the Catania mobile team, who died 12 days ago

after the vaccine inoculation.

The policeman was given a dose from the same batch of which the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) decided as a precaution to issue a ban on use throughout the national territory.

The investigation was opened on press reports.

The investigations were delegated by the prosecutor Carmelo Zuccaro to the carabinieri of the Nas of Catania.

And the administration of the anti Covid-19 vaccine to teachers in the vaccination center managed by the Army in Cosenza was suspended, after the Aifa communication that banned the use of doses belonging to batch ABV2856 of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The vaccine injected into school staff today belongs to the lot indicated in the communication from the Italian drug agency.

There are 173 patients who have been administered the vaccine belonging to the blocked batch who will now be followed by pharmacovigilance by the Asp of Cosenza.
