The storm "Klaus" hit Germany with gale-force gusts.

However, there was no major damage until Thursday evening.

The focus was on areas in the northwest, especially the coasts.

In the north and northwest, cities and ferry companies had prepared for the storm.

In Lower Saxony and Bremen, the storm had preoccupied the emergency services with fallen trees.

In Bremen-Nord the power supply failed over a large area after a tree fell on a substation in a storm.

The damage was repaired that evening, said a spokesman for the fire department.

In addition, a fallen tree stopped a regional train in the region, the passengers were uninjured.

In any case, there were impairments on some routes in Lower Saxony and Bremen, but also in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.

Passer-by is hit by a roof tile

Hurricane gusts were also measured in several places in North Rhine-Westphalia, but there was no major damage until late afternoon.

In downtown Düsseldorf - presumably due to the storm - a church tower cross loosened, as the fire brigade announced, there was a risk of it falling.

In downtown Essen, a passer-by was hit in the head by a falling roof tile during a storm.

Because of two tangled cranes in Rhineland-Palatinate, a federal road and a railway line in the Trier-Saarburg district were temporarily closed.

As the police announced, it could not be ruled out that they might overturn in the face of reported squalls.

With the help of a special crane, the rope could finally be removed from the second crane.

The road and the railway line were closed for around two and a half hours.

According to the police, there was no personal injury or property damage.

For Friday night, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) expected water levels on the North Sea coast to be up to one meter above normal floods.

The weather experts are already expecting a new storm low for Saturday, which will then occur more intensely in the middle and south of Germany.
