Warner Bros. announced on Friday that the film "Wonder Woman 1984" will not be released in theaters in France, the group preferring not to wait for their reopening and broadcast it online and on physical media.
Directed by Patty Jenkins, this film should have been released in late 2020 in theaters after already several postponements, but their prolonged closure makes this impossible.
“Wonder Woman 1984”, which should have been a hit for theaters, will therefore first be released on March 31 as a “digital purchase”.
On April 7, the film will be available on VOD, DVD, Blu-Ray and Steelbook.
"Wonder Woman 1984" will also be broadcast on Canal +, although we do not yet know when.
As BFM TV reminds us, the law prevents a film from being released in theaters if it has already been shown on another medium.
Other films have met the same fate
Sequel to "Wonder Woman", released in 2017, already directed by Patty Jenkins, "Wonder Woman 1984" shows the heroine, Wonder Woman, facing several characters from the DC universe, in a context of cold war with the States -United.
The film, which has been shown in theaters across the Atlantic, has met with such great success that a third episode has already been ordered.
"Wonder Woman 1984" is not the only film which has given up, in France, to a theatrical release.
In December, Disney had already preferred to release "Mulan" on its platform, Disney +, than to have to wait for a reopening of theaters, as it had already done for "Soul".
Its theatrical release scheduled for a few days after the first lockdown, "Forte", with Melha Bedia, was finally released on Amazon Prime Video.
