Since March 1, the inhabitants of rue Maxime Gorki, in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis), now live in the street… Jacques Chirac.
The municipality decided last summer to rename this residential street of Aulnay, named after the former President of the Republic.
A decision that has tense many residents, who believe they have been faced with a fait accompli without having a say.
They also fear, especially the older ones, the administrative changes linked to this modification.
The town hall has since announced that it would help them and cover these administrative costs linked to the modification of their address. Jacques Mootoogounden, who was "born in this street", is one of the residents most upset against the town hall. He launched a petition several weeks ago to mobilize these neighbors and also filed an appeal with the Montreuil administrative court, from which he is awaiting a response. Like many people we interviewed, he does not question the choice of Jacques Chirac but the method and the name change itself.
