It was planned differently: In the Bavarian town of Bürgstadt, a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists was to be built over the river Erf.

But she was missing 14.5 centimeters.

The mishap was only noticed when the 3.5-ton bridge was already hanging over the river with a crane, as the "Main-Echo" reported on Friday.

With a police escort, the manufacturing company from Baden-Württemberg had transported the bridge to Lower Franconia during the night so that it would be ready for the inauguration on Thursday.

A kindergarten group should take the first steps.

But when a crane lifted the bridge over the Erf, it was noticed that one side was missing 14.5 centimeters in height to reach the trailer, as the »Main-Echo« writes.

The manufacturer said the fault was a bad inventory plan.

Fixing that would be quick: the bridge is supposed to be used for good next week.

Until then she rests on a meadow next to the Erf.
