The first of these mega-centers, which should make it possible to massively vaccinate the French against Covid-19, will open at the end of March. They

Boost to the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in France.

The country will deploy dozens of vaccinodromes in the coming days, on the model of mega-centers already set up by local communities in several cities.

Before the start of the immunization campaign, the government had however ruled out the idea of using large centers, associated with the failure of the campaign against the H1N1 flu shots.

But three months later, the health crisis persists and vaccination represents the only hope to get out of it.

The immunization phase in nursing homes is "behind us", the deliveries of doses "are accelerating", "we can therefore move on to a second phase of vaccination, more massive", explained Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister Delegate in charge of Industry, this Tuesday morning on BFMTV.

These vaccinodromes "will complement the devices that already exist", such as vaccination in town or mobile vaccination centers, recalls Civil Security, which will participate in the management of certain mega-centers, as it currently does on ephemeral sites.

How many vaccinodromes will be deployed?

Where are they going to be installed?

Who can vaccinate?

The Parisian takes stock.

How many centers will they be deployed and by whom?

According to the Ministry of Health, 100 to 200 vaccinodromes will be installed in the territory, or 1 to 2 per department by the end of April.

Among these centers, the firefighters will manage "at least 35", tells us Civil Security.

And remember that these figures are still "projections".

The Ministry of the Armed Forces will also be in charge of several vaccinodromes, "which will probably be backed up by military hospitals" - eight in number on French territory -, specifies the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

“Discussions are underway,” explains the Ministry of the Armed Forces.

Of course, we will play our role and our part, but for the moment, we are at the planning stage.

To date, there is talk of perpetuating, at a minimum, vaccination centers already set up in a number of military hospitals.

"

In addition to the firefighters and the army, the State and the Health Insurance will also participate in the establishment of these vaccinodromes.

Civilian actors, such as the Red Cross, will also play a role.

When and where will they be installed?

The first vaccinodromes should open at the end of March, indicates the DGS.

They will then be gradually installed throughout the territory over the month of April.

Massive vaccination in the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, for example, should begin Thursday April 1, according to the scenario envisaged by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Ile-de-France, the prefecture, the brigade des sapeurs- firefighters of Paris, the departmental council of Seine-Saint-Denis and the city of Saint-Denis.

According to the local newspaper La Dépêche du midi, a vaccinodrome managed by the Toulouse University Hospital and the department's firefighters will be installed in the former exhibition center on the Ile du Ramier in Toulouse and should be operational from the week -end next.

These mega-centers will be deployed as a priority "in the most populous departments to reach a larger part of the population," says Civil Security.

The surfaces likely to be able to accommodate them are "in the process of prospecting".

The prefects and the ARS are on the move, along with the local communities.

What will the opening hours of these centers be?

Nothing has yet been set to date, but vaccinodromes may be required to open "on public holidays, weekends and even nights, if necessary," said Olivier Véran on Monday evening, during a debate on the logistics of the vaccine strategy in the National Assembly.

"We will change dimension from April, there are no weekends and holidays for vaccination," insisted Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, after visiting a vaccination center and a pharmacy in the North of France.

Which staff will be able to vaccinate?

In addition to the doctors and nurses who already vaccinate in conventional centers, the firefighters obtained by decree on March 11 the right to carry out injections after training.

As of Tuesday March 23, 2000 firefighters had already been trained since the appearance of the decree, announces the Civil Security.

“By the beginning of April, we will have a potential of 20,000 to 25,000 trained firefighters to vaccinate.

The Army health service is made up of around 14,000 people in total.

The Ministry of Health hopes to expand the list of personnel authorized to vaccinate and expects an opinion from the High Authority for Health (HAS) on the subject by the end of the week.

"We asked them which personnel could become injectors, especially in the field of health students or veterinarians", specifies the DGS.

What vaccines will be injected?

This will be very essentially the product of Pfizer / BioNTech, which will be delivered to vaccinodromes directly by the depositories and which France expects from mid-April about 2 million weekly doses, says the DGS.

The first to receive the sesame from the health authorities on December 21, this vaccine is based on so-called messenger RNA.

It can be stored at a temperature of −60 and −80 degrees, which makes its transport and storage very complicated.

How many doses per day?

The government's objective is to have vaccinated 10 million French people in mid-April, 20 million in mid-May and 30 million in mid-June.

The creation of these vaccinodromes should make it possible to absorb 1000 to 2000 daily injections.

In comparison, 500 doses are injected each week on average in conventional centers.

"Our goal is that by April, when we have received enough vaccines, we will manage to absorb 1 million doses per week through these mega-centers", specifies the DGS.

July, autumn, 2022… when will the happy days return?

Thus, with 35 centers managed by firefighters and an average of 2,000 injections per day, Civil Security estimates that it is able to inject 530,000 doses per week.

"Of course, these are figures subject to the availability of doses, we will adapt," she tempers.

For who ?

“The prioritization will not change,” insists the DGS.

The people called to come to the vaccinodromes will be the same as for the other vaccination centers, namely those over 75 years old, or from 65 years old for patients suffering from comorbidities.

This public will be joined on Saturday by those over 70 without comorbidities, announced Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.

"I want things to be organized in a very methodical way, going down by age groups," he said.

How to get vaccinated in these centers?

The format will be that of "making an appointment" online, on the same model as what exists today (Doctolib, Santé.fr, Maia), confirms the DGS.

“We will perhaps set up new dedicated applications,” adds Civil Security.

In addition, the Health Insurance will launch an appeal campaign to reach people over 75 not yet immunized, in order to help them in their procedures, further indicates the DGS.
