The appeals of the five defendants for the collapse of the stage set up in the Palasport of Reggio Calabria for the Laura Pausini concert, a dramatic accident in which on March 5, 2012, Mattero Armellini, a Roman worker engaged in the preparation of the structure.
In particular, for three of the defendants the sentence imposed by the Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria on October 18, 2019 for manslaughter and culpable disaster was confirmed, while for the other two accused manslaughter was declared prescribed and remained instead firm. the conviction for the collapse.
All were sentenced to pay damages to the civil parties.
In particular, the people sentenced by the Supreme Court are the former head of the technical office of the Municipality of Reggio, Marcello Cammera;
the safety coordinator for the construction of the structure, Sandro Scalise;
the designer Franco Faggiotto;
Ferdinando Salzano, the representative of the "F&P Group", client of the stage set-up work at Italstage;
the manager of "Italstage", the company that had built the stage, Pasquale Aumenta.
According to what has been learned, the statute of limitations for manslaughter would have taken place for Cammera and Aumenta, while the part of the sentence relating to the collapse and compensation was irrevocable.
Overall, the appeals were rejected by the Fourth Criminal Section.
