ROME - The 2021 season of artisanal ice cream officially opens on March 24, with "Gelato Day". The initiative of the European Day of Artisan Ice Cream, now in its ninth edition and aimed at promoting the art of ice cream, will be characterized by the mantecado, flavor of the year chosen by Spain and possible to enjoy at home with the delivery service, given that in Italy, as in many other European countries, it will not be possible to physically go to the ice cream parlor due to the health emergency. The possibility of delivery will also be guaranteed through a collaboration with Deliveroo. The mantecado flavor, an ancient vanilla cream, variegated with orange sauce and decorated with dark chocolate flakes, will be offered in its original recipe or in the creative variations of ice cream makers throughout Italy who are participating in the event. Gelato Day, the only day the European Parliament has ever dedicated to a food, also includes social activities with the new Gelato Day YouTube channel, which joins the official pages of the Day on Facebook and Instagram. The initiative will make it possible to discover how artisanal ice cream is prepared.
