This giant container continues to block international shipping traffic. Ten tugs had tried in vain to free the 400 meter long "Ever Given" from its banked position. Pictures show dredgers trying to pave a way for the bow of the ship. Satellite images show the location of the freighter. At least 150 ships are currently waiting for the ocean liner to be liberated. They accumulate at both ends of the canal: on the Mediterranean and the Red Sea as well as on the artificial waterway itself. The Suez Canal is one of the most important waterways of all. The 224,000 tonne and 59 meter wide freighter is one of the largest container ships in the world. According to the port authority, the "Ever Given" had become incapable of maneuvering in the wake of a sandstorm in strong winds, lost course and ran aground near the port city of Suez. The oil price rose promptly by about six percent because of the accident.
