After allegations of censorship in Russia about the British film »Supernova«, the drama about a homosexual couple will now be shown completely with a sex scene from April 8th.
The Ministry of Culture has released the feature film with Oscar winner Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci in the lead roles for viewers aged 18 and over, Russian media reported.
Previously, director Harry Macqueen had made public that the Russian distribution company had cut out the approximately three-minute sex scene in an act of self-censorship.
This censored version was released in theaters in March.
Filmmaker Macqueen had asked for the original of the film to be shown everywhere.
"Even if we recognize the pressure that Russian film distributors are under, we will not tolerate such censorship," he said.
The Russian Ministry of Culture stressed that it had nothing to do with the scene that was cut out.
Homosexuality is not banned in Russia, but it is largely taboo in public.
"Supernova" is about a couple's journey together after one of the men was diagnosed with dementia.
To savor the last moments together and relive memories, the sick Tusker (Stanley Tucci) and his partner Sam (Colin Firth) drive across England in a motorhome.
In the version, which was initially shown in Russian cinemas in March, the scene of the couple's unsuccessful attempt to have sex was missing.
It has not yet been determined when the film will be released in Germany.
Elton John had also criticized the handling of homosexuality in the past.
The film "Rocketman" was censored in several places.
It shows the struggle of the British pop star with his drug and alcohol addiction, his homosexuality was also an issue.
