With the arrival tonight to Ezeiza of Aerolineas Argentinas flight AR1051 from Beijing, with

one million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine

against the coronavirus, Argentina will have a total of

6,768,540 doses.

Within the shortage, the good news is that

the arrival of vaccines

is accelerating

: half of the total arrived in the last two weeks.

The second wave looms and the country

comes running from behind

: it must get all the vaccines against the clock to reduce the damage.

Last week Argentina received

1,200,000 doses

: on Friday, March 19,

330,000

Sputnik V arrived;

Three days later another

500 thousand

vaccines arrived from Moscow and last Friday,

370 thousand more.

Meanwhile, this week a total arrival of about

2,000,000 doses is expected

, among which, in addition to the one million Sinopharm, the first batch of

218,400 from the Covax mechanism

, which arrived at the Ezeiza airport on Sunday and correspond those made by Oxford / AstraZeneca;

and

another 300 thousand

of the Sputnik V vaccine that arrived last Tuesday.

This Friday, meanwhile, another batch of Sputnik V vaccines from Moscow is scheduled to arrive.

According to the Public Vaccination Monitor, the online registry of the Ministry of Health that shows in real time the immunization operation throughout the Argentine territory, until this morning there are already

5,102,345 vaccines distributed and 4,023,017 applied

: 3,342,427 680,590 people received the first dose and both.

The arrival of vaccines had an

erratic behavior

in Argentina, in accordance with the problems of access worldwide, although there were some countries that managed to be the exceptions.

On March 30, the last batch of Sputnik arrived and another is expected for this Friday.

Here there was a

 maximum level of anxiety

in the second week of March, when both from the City of Buenos Aires and from Buenos Aires territory came to alert about the fact that they were running out of vaccines to apply.

The reality is that after the first batch of Sputnik and until the reactivation of shipments on March 19,

almost three months passed in which just over three million vaccines arrived

.

Now, that same amount will have arrived but in the sixth part of that first half.

To this was added that the Sinopharm vaccine was finally approved for application in those

over 60

, which was a breath of air to rush immunization in older adults before the coldest time of year arrives.

Despite this acceleration, Argentina continues to have

a low percentage of vaccinated

.

According to the Our World in Data site,

7.1 percent

of the population received at least one dose.

That places our country at the same level as Brazil, but well below Chile, which vaccinated 35.5 percent.

The country that vaccinated the most continues to be

Israel, with 60.5 percent of the population

, while the United Kingdom managed to cover 45.5 percent and the United States, 29.2.

Most European countries are

in the order of 11 percent.

The rest of South America is

below Argentina

: Colombia vaccinated 3.6 percent;

Peru, at 1.7 percent;

Bolivia, at 1.6 percent;

Ecuador, at 1 percent and Paraguay, at 0.6 percent.

Venezuela, meanwhile, managed to inoculate 0.1 percent.

The figures change a lot when the percentage of the population vaccinated

with the two doses

is observed

, a parameter in which Argentina will increasingly lag behind from the decision to postpone the reinforcement of the first application for

no less than three months.

In that ranking, Argentina managed to complete the scheme of 1.5 percent of its population, while there Brazil has an advantage, with 2 percent.

In the case of Chile, 19.2 percent of its citizens received both doses.

It remains to be seen

what the health outcome

 of our country will be in the short and medium term, from the decision to postpone the second dose.
