An employee of the Wuppertaler Tafel is said to have stolen donated food from the organization's premises and then sold it for a profit.

Police and public prosecutor in Wuppertal announced that investigations have been carried out since March on suspicion of breach of trust and fraud.

The 33-year-old is said to have sold significant amounts of donated chocolate on an internet platform.

The employee had been released with immediate effect and was dismissed, the emergency board informed the food bank and assured that the operation with the distribution of food would continue over Easter.

The plaque filed a complaint last year because 8,800 donated breathing masks had been stolen.

Further investigation

According to the investigators, the 33-year-old is said to have also ensured that a person was certified as having worked hours on probation even though they were not performed.

In general, it will also be examined whether the board has rightly received services from the job center.

According to the communication, this involves seminars on professional reintegration and whether they were carried out correctly.

The investigators searched the rooms of the Wuppertaler Tafel and a private apartment.

Several moving boxes of documents and several data carriers were confiscated, it said.
