(ANSA) - MOGADISCIO, APRIL 03 - Islamic terrorists from Al-Shabaab attacked two important military bases in Somalia this morning, in both cases detonating car bombs before attacking on foot with weapons in hand, according to witnesses of the Somali army, which claim that the assaults were repulsed.
The number of victims is not yet known.
The attacks took place in the southern region of LowerShabelle, respectively in the towns of Awdheeglee di Bariire, about thirty kilometers away from each other.
"The attackers tried to attack, but thanks to our brave soldiers who knew their tricks, they were defeated. Their corpses and wounds lie all around," the military commander, Gen.
Odowa Yusuf Rage, reserving the right to provide further details later.
"Our forces are still pursuing the rest of the attackers. The Somali army is in control of both bases," added the Somali military leader.
Eyewitnesses at the Awdheegle base, the larger of the two attacked, said the military had reasoned the jihadist militiamen after about an hour of fighting and that the Shabaabs used a vehicle filled with explosives that failed to enter the base and was been detonated outside.
Witnesses claim to have seen the bodies of many jihadists lying on the ground.
