(ANSA) - TEHRAN, APRIL 10 - "The English variant of the coronavirus that is circulating in Iran has arrived from Iraq and has produced the beginning of the fourth pandemic wave in our country".
Iranian President Hassan Rohani said this, adding that trips and meetings for the Iranian New Year are other causes of the worsening of the situation.
The government announced a ten-day nationwide lockdown for educational, cultural and religious facilities, including mosques who had planned programs for Wednesday for the start of the fasting month of Ramadan.
In addition, in 257 Iranian cities at very high risk and 129 at high risk, only 50% of staff from major institutions and a third in other organizations will work in the presence of two weeks.
The only economic activities open in these areas will be supermarkets, medical clinics and car repair centers.
