"The message that is passing through is that now everything is over, but yesterday the sentence of the Hague tribunal was simply applied, which will then be ratified at the hearing on April 19. Now, however, the trial phase will begin in Italy. which we hope will lead to the truth, because for us dignity matters more than anything else: it cannot end like this ".
Paola Moschetti,
wife of Marina's rifleman Massimiliano Latorre
,
told ANSA
, commenting on the decision of the Indian Supreme Court, ready to file the dossier when Italy has paid about one million euros to the families of the fishermen killed.
Latorre and his fellow soldier Salvatore Girone are accused of killing two Indian fishermen in 2012, off the coast of Kerala, while they were on board the Italian commercial ship Enrica Lexie for an anti-piracy mission.
After the agreement on the amount of Italy's compensation to the victims, about 1.1 million euros, yesterday the Supreme Court of New Delhi gave the ok to dismiss the case as soon as the sum is paid.
"Now, after 9 years - continues Paola Moschetti - a new phase is opening which we hope will be short: we cannot lose another ten years of our life to get to the truth of the facts".
"Furthermore - concludes Moschetti - I would like to add that we have learned all the news on the latest developments from the press and from no one else".
"We look at the essential element of the sentence of the Hague tribunal, namely the recognition of functional immunity and therefore of the Italian jurisdiction that will allow the two riflemen to be able to prove their innocence before the Italian court".
Vania Ardito, wife of Marina Salvatore Girone's rifleman,
says this to ANSA
.
"The compensation due to the Indians - he continues - is not compensation for the responsibility of our soldiers, but is due to the 'political' ruling of the Hague tribunal to find a fair compromise for both parties. I specify this because no institutional figure has never specified ".
