New twist in the world of Ligue 1 TV rights. According to information from L'Équipe, Canal + could only buy the broadcasting rights for the league's juiciest matches.
The group, which became the sole broadcaster of the competition after the failure of Mediapro, would give up 80% of the matches deemed too unprofitable.
For the moment, Canal + holds lot 3 for the period 2020-2024, i.e. two matches per day.
A contract already climbing to 330 million euros per year.
The LFP turns to DAZN
To make up for this absence, the Professional Football League will have to look for a replacement at the Vivendi subsidiary.
The LFP would have turned - with some reservations - to DAZN, an English streaming service to take over the exploitation rights of minor matches for the next three seasons.
A purchase in the same vein of that of the Italian series A, until 2024 for 2.5 billion.

With a view to showing these matches on the small screen, DAZN would like to come to an agreement with Canal for the distribution of a channel launched in France on this occasion. A prospect that does not enchant the encrypted channel. Still according to the sports daily, BeIN would also have been contacted, but would not want to position itself. The case seems far from being settled just a few months before the start of the next season.
