In an unauthorized demonstration by around 60 opponents of the corona policy on Monday evening, three police officers were attacked from a crowd in Schmalkalden, Thuringia.
Two officers were injured in the attack, the police said.
Most of the demo participants did not adhere to the hygiene and distance rules, it said.
The attack occurred when the police wanted to take down the personal details of a man who appeared to be the leader of the meeting.
A 44-year-old initially insulted the officers and then suddenly hit one of them in the neck.
In the subsequent tussle, the man threw another policeman to the ground.
Police officers had to get to safety
The officers used pepper spray against an unknown attacker and then had to get to safety from an angry crowd that harassed and threatened her.
The two injured police officers were treated in hospital, the 44-year-old refused medical treatment.
According to a police spokeswoman, his identity is known, but he has not yet been arrested.
Criminal Investigation Department took over the investigation.
Videos were circulated on Twitter showing the attack.
