They touched the doorknobs and received severe electric shocks: A 53-year-old doctor died in his practice in mid-April, and one employee was slightly injured.
After the serious accident in Bremen, it was initially unclear why the door handles were energized.
Now the police apparently have an answer: craftsman botch.
"There are now clear indications of improperly carried out manual work," said the police.
Accordingly, the part of the building was repaired in February before the practice moved in.
After the renovation, however, several doors would have been energized in practice.
Fresh paint initially isolated the metal frames.
However, when the paint peeled off, the insulation was lost.
This gave the employees electric shocks.
The police are investigating negligent homicide.
It will continue to be checked "which people were involved in the renovation and who did what," it said.
Fireman had to be resuscitated
According to the police, the 37-year-old employee of the practice had initially suffered a blow when she touched the handles of two neighboring doors.
The woman fell to the ground in severe pain, but was only slightly injured.
Thereupon the doctor, who had overheard what had happened, apparently also touched both handles.
According to the fire brigade and police, dramatic scenes took place during the operation.
During the resuscitation of the doctor, a 32-year-old firefighter was also electrocuted.
He was taken to a clinic with life-threatening injuries.
In addition, the rescuers had to fetch eight children from the practice.
They were rescued via a turntable ladder.
The doctor's daughter was among the children.
