(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 10 - In the last two days "29 Palestinian children have been injured" in East Jerusalem, also in the Old City and in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. "Eight Palestinian minors have been arrested in the meantime." Unicef denounced it, adding that among the injured there is also a one-year-old child. Some children, who were taken to hospital for treatment, had head and spine injuries.
UNICEF has received reports according to which ambulances were prevented from arriving on site to assist and evacuate the wounded and that an on-site clinic was hit and searched.
The UN body urges the Israeli authorities to refrain from the use of violence against children and to release all children in prison. Stressing that the detention of minors is a last resort solution and should be used for the shortest time possible.
Then an appeal is launched "to all parties involved" to prevent "any further escalation" and "protect all civilians, especially children". (HANDLE).
