(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 26 - The priority is "the defense of the person against all violence and discrimination" but also "the protection of pluralism of opinion without being afraid of running into sanction mechanisms". This was stated by the newly elected president of the CEI, mgr. Giuseppe Baturi, archbishop of Cagliari, in a briefing on the sidelines of the Assembly of Bishops.
Speaking of the Zan bill, he added: "Let's free the field from any possible intolerance".
On the Zan bill, among the Italian bishops there is "a frank and free confrontation", added Baturi. Asked whether different positions in the Italian Church could be harmonized, Baturi replied: "The solution will certainly be unified".
"On fundamental issues, such as that of identity, the legislator must end a process of sharing and debate that must take place in society", underlined the CEI vice president. (HANDLE).
