(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, JUN 9 - "America is back and" democracies are united to face the challenges of the future ": said Joe Biden speaking after his wife Jill in front of the troops at the Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall, England, the air base that supports American aviation operations.
"We are not looking for conflict but a stable and predictable relationship with Russia", added the president, reiterating that the US will respond in a "robust and meaningful way" to any hostile action by Moscow. A message that he wanted to relaunch a week after his first face to face with Vladimir Putin in Geneva on June 16.
Joe Biden then said that when he meets the leaders of the NATO countries in Brussels he will reaffirm the US commitment to article 5 on mutual defense. A commitment that Donald Trump had not publicly confirmed four years ago. The American commitment to the Atlantic Alliance, Biden assured is "very solid" but the commander in chief stressed the need to modernize the organization and its capabilities in the cyber sector.
