Emergency services rescued a man from the sea off Heligoland who had called for help.
He had apparently fallen from a pier into the water, as the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS) announced.
According to the information, the incident occurred on Thursday early in the morning.
The crew of a cruise ship that was anchored off the island heard screams from the water around three o'clock.
The crew alerted the sea rescuers.
Find spot illuminated
The DGzRS lifeboat »Verena« went to the site of the accident in the northeast of Heligoland.
The cruise ship illuminated the spot where the screams came from.
The rescuers found a man who was severely hypothermic.
How long he had been in the water, the rescued could not say.
The water temperature was 13 degrees.
The rescued came to the hospital.
