Anti-Covid vaccination: appointments for the first dose are in free fall

2021-06-12T16:32:54.317Z

The number of first appointment bookings has fallen sharply in recent days, while only 56.1% of the population received in the month

Gone are the days when we connected day and night to Doctolib, Maiia, Keldoc or Vite Ma Dose to get an appointment for the Covid-19 vaccination of our grandmother or for ourselves.

Now, almost everywhere in France, you can find an appointment in four to five days, or much more quickly, for a first injection of Pfizer or Moderna.

This Friday in the middle of the afternoon, we could even go to be vaccinated within the hour in several centers of Ile-de-France (Rungis, Gagny, Mantes-la-Jolie, etc.).

The Doctolib site, the campaign's leading platform, reports a 44% drop in appointment bookings, compared to the peak recorded during the week until May 12 and a third compared to that of May 25 to June 1.

In the last seven days, only 192,000 appointments have been made on average on the site, against 344,000 at the peak of the wave.

“We must distinguish two things, says Doctolib. There are appointments in some areas that are not made, which does not mean that the doses are wasted. In other places, there is simply less tension than a few weeks ago. The appointments for the second doses are taken at the same time as those for the first dose, which explains why the number of injections remains high despite the decrease in the number of appointments. "

In fact, more than 570,000 doses have been injected on average each day over the past week, a record since the start of the vaccination campaign.

A sustained average carried by the second doses.

On June 3, the first injections represented 63% of the total injections, against 58% now.

According to the site's projections, there will be more second doses than first injected from June 14, at a time when vaccine deliveries have never been so numerous.

"There are still short-term niches"

Stanislas Niox-Chateau, CEO of Doctolib, plays the promoter: “In some territories, there are still available short-term niches.

It is therefore time to make an appointment to be vaccinated before the summer.

From June 15, appointments can also be made for those over 12 years old.

Despite this reservoir, the ceiling rather envisaged for the end of June by the government is looming, but other indicators suggest that the pool of candidates is not dry.

Covireivac, a research platform on Covid vaccines led by Inserm, conducted a survey indicating that 77% of French people now plan to be vaccinated or have already done so.

The report raises several useful avenues to mobilize the hesitant or reluctant: "Vaccination at the attending physician (

Editor's note: who can now administer Moderna), as

well as in the vaccination centers existing before Covid-19 is preferred to vaccination in dedicated center, in the workplace and in pharmacies. (…) People who do not intend to be vaccinated, but do not absolutely reject the idea, would prefer to be vaccinated by their doctor, far ahead of all other possibilities and in particular in front of vaccination in pharmacies.
