Anton Corbijn: "I built the image of Depeche Mode"

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - Traveling companion of the British group for over thirty years, the photographer has dedicated a book to it.

Long, gangly like a musician without earthly foods, disheveled hair and blue eyes, 66-year-old Anton Corbijn is a legend of photography as well as music.

This son of the strict Dutch soil is the one who shaped the artistic image of the British group Depeche Mode, with his strongly contrasting photographs that carry the legacy of Romanticism and Northern Europe.

Slightly their senior, he followed for forty years Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher, the very different members of a group which sold 100 million records and fed a world fan club.

For Taschen, he selected 500 images from his archives, which he annotated with his simple and readable teacher's handwriting, through his memories, by albums or tours.

This enormous paving stone in the shape of a design work follows the construction of an image, an integral part of a success that the years have not denied.
