"It is a question of gaining time - explains Mario Balzanelli, National President of the Italian Society 118 system (SIS 118) - or these lives are lost. Salvation can come from the sky with drones that immediately bring a defibrillator where needed, on sudden cardiac arrest scenarios, or even blood products (eg plasma) in the event of a very serious traumatic event in which there is haemorrhagic shock ".
Sudden cardiac arrest represents the most serious unexpected threat and, statistically, also the most relevant, representing the first clinical manifestation with which 50% of cardiovascular mortality is determined, which in turn represents the first cause of death ever in man. Countering the "massacre of sudden death", notes Balzanelli, "therefore represents the first and most important institutional mandate of the Territorial Emergency System 118". An immediate and uninterrupted heart massage and the electric shock delivered by a defibrillator within the first 5 minutes from the onset of cardiac arrest have very high chances of "recovering" fully to life, he points out, "at least 25,000 of the 60,000 Italians who die atsudden every year in Italy. Thus, it is a question of rapidly creating in our country a system of treatment for sudden cardiac arrest that includes, involves and actively empowers the entire national community ".
"We cannot realistically think, at least in this historical period - underlines Balzanelli - to be able to take advantage of defibrillators positioned 100 meters away from each other immediately accessible in case of sudden need, even if a progressive reorganization of the living environments and of work that includes the presence of a defibrillator represents a formidable logistical priority for the protection of collective health on which we have been working incessantly for over 26 years, starting from schools and condominiums ".
"On the other hand, as Società Italiana Sistema 118 (SIS118), we believe it is indispensable and indispensable to prepare and test soon an advanced pre-hospital rescue system that makes available to anyone a defibrillator that arrives in the right place, in front of the right patient, at the right time - adds - by integrating the arrival time dynamics of employees of the rescue vehicles and crews of the 118 System with the sending of drones, coordinated and guided in real time by the Operations Center 118, which bring immediately, ie in a few minutes, to the scene of the event , to the requesting aid in the event of sudden cardiac arrest, or a defibrillator ".
