For women in Germany, the duration of statutory pension insurance before retirement rose again on average in 2020, as current figures show.
Women
in Germany receive pensions for more and more years of work. The German Press Agency (dpa) reports on it. For women, for example, the
duration of statutory pension
insurance
before retirement rose to
an average of 36.3 years
last year, according to new data from the pension insurance. In 2000, women only had an average of 27.7 insurance years at the start of their old-age pension. In 2019 it was 35.3.
There are differences between East and West Germany.
This time the numbers show the following trend: The
increase in women in the old federal states is
particularly clear
, according to dpa.
Here, the number of
average insurance
years between 2000 and 2020 increased from 24.2 to 34.5 years.
In East Germany the duration increased from 40.9 to 43.1 years.

Increase in the insurance years in the statutory pension insurance
“The increase in the number of insurance years is mainly due to the increased participation of women in the labor force,” said the chairman of the Federal Representative Assembly of the Pension Insurance, Jens Dirk Wohlfeil, according to dpa.
Another factor to be considered is that there are fewer opportunities than before to retire early.
In the past, retirement was sometimes possible at the age of 60.
The increased
crediting of child-rearing periods through the maternal pension also affects
