Today, the Faculty of Education at Damascus University celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding and honored a number of its former deans and retired professors in appreciation of their scientific and knowledge contribution and their contribution to building generations over many years.

The honored constellation of former faculty professors, according to their age, included Dr. Asaad Lutfi, Dr. Gabriel Bishara, Dr. Salha Sanqar, Dr. Ali Mansour, Dr. Mahmoud El-Sayed, Dr. Ali Saad, Dr. Ghassan Abu Fakhr, Dr. Sam Ammar, Dr. Muhammad Waheed Siam, Dr. Taher Salloum, Dr. Amal Al-Ahmad, Dr. Issa Shammas and Dr. Muhammad Khair Al-Fawal, Dr. Ali Al-Hosari, Dr. Fadel Hanna, Dr. Farah Al-Mutlaq, Dr. Hashem Ibrahim and Dr. Yasser Jamous.

Dr. Zainab Zayoud, Dean of the College, confirmed in her speech that the College continues its quest for excellence in performance and production by reviewing and developing its educational policies and renewing its goals according to the stages of development and its ambitions.

In turn, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, praised the college’s efforts in terms of scientific research and its role in serving the community. He said: “We have a lot of work ahead of us to develop the educational process, whether in the education sector or the higher education sector, especially with regard to modifying educational and study plans and curricula primarily. “.

Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, drew attention to the honorees' contribution to the success of educational work during the past years and their leadership of the educational movement, pointing to the importance of participatory work and teamwork with the Ministry of Higher Education to serve the development of educational reality.

Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdeen, President of Damascus University, stated that the faculty, by virtue of its accumulated experiences, scientific status, and volume of research, assumed a key role alongside faculties of education in other branches and universities in community service, and became a platform for preparing educational and psychological frameworks with a high degree of professionalism and efficiency.

The ceremony included the screening of an introductory documentary film on the College of Education and its departments since its establishment, as well as films and documentaries about the honored professors, their achievements and scientific research.

It is noteworthy that the College of Education was established in 1946 in the name of the Higher Institute for Teachers and has since taken the responsibility of preparing female and male teachers for middle and secondary schools and the role of male and female teachers, while it is currently seeking to develop towards diversifying specializations at the level of bachelor’s and graduate studies, as well as developing scientific research methods and means in the psychological and educational fields.
