(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 03 - A plaque on a stretch of the Roman ring road where the accountant Fantozzi tried, failing, to take the bus to go to the office. A famous location that the Capitol chose to celebrate the legendary character played by Paolo Villaggio 50 years after the publication of the novel Fantozzi.

The presentation was made today in the Capitol, on the anniversary of the death of the well-known actor in 2017. Present the family of Paolo Villaggio, the Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi, Massimo Mescia of Volume Entertainment, Ivan Tamburrini of the Aci partner, the director and film critic Mario Sesti, Gianluca Giannelli director of Alice nella Città.

The homage bears one of the cult images of the film, the one in which the accountant Ugo Fantozzi throws himself from the balcony of his home, which overlooks the ring road, to take the bus and reach the office to stamp the card in time. The celebratory pole will be made of cast iron material with some dialogues present in the film between Fantozzi and the wife and will be positioned in the coming weeks along one of the sidewalks in Viale Castrense, a few meters from the balcony.

"Rome wants to pay homage once again to the master PaoloVillaggio in one of the films that consecrated him forever to his audience. Four years after his death and 50 years after the novel's publication, the character Fantozzi told better than anyone else a changing society and has devised an innovative way of making cinema ", said the Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi.

Furthermore, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the death of Paolo Villaggio, Volume Entertainment and the Aci partner present this evening the initiative "Maratona Fantozzi", the nostop screening of the films of the legendary Fantozzi saga from the first film of 1971 to the docufilm "La voce di Fantozzi" directed by Mario Sesti.
