The pictures are frightening.
A ring of fire has formed on the surface of an undersea gas pipeline located 150 meters from an oil drilling platform.
The incident caused flames to shoot out of the water in a circle mimicking an erupting volcano.
According to the Pemex company in charge of the installation, the gas leak started around 5:15 a.m. local time and the fire was extinguished five hours later.

"No injuries or evacuees are to be deplored," the company said in a statement. Angel Carrizales, director of the Mexican Petroleum Safety Regulatory Authority (ASEA), meanwhile said on Twitter that the fire had caused "no spill" of oil. The exact reasons for the leak are not yet known.
