A vacationer from Switzerland was killed on the Thai vacation island of Phuket. The case is now apparently resolved.

The police on the Thai holiday island of Phuket arrested a suspect after the violent death of a Swiss woman.

This was reported by several media outlets, including the local TV broadcaster Thai PBS.

The local police chief said, according to the Reuters news agency: “We have good news.

The matter is over. ”As two police officers from the agency confirmed, the alleged perpetrator was a 27-year-old from Phuket.

The police wanted to hold a press conference on Sunday and provide further details.

Body covered with black tarpaulin

According to Thai PBS, the man is said to have confessed to the woman's murder.

The 57-year-old traveled to the largest island in the kingdom in mid-July as part of a model project for tourism in Corona times.

She was reportedly found dead near a remote waterfall in the south of the island later this week.

According to initial information, her body should have been there for a maximum of three days.

The corpse was therefore covered with a black tarpaulin.

Shorts, a smartphone and a passport were found nearby.

Evidence indicated that the 57-year-old was first raped and then murdered, according to the Bangkok Post newspaper, which appealed to the police.

Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai expressed his condolences to the Swiss Ambassador to Thailand.

Fully vaccinated people from almost 70 countries have been able to travel to Phuket again since July 1st.

As part of the so-called »sandbox« project, guests are subject to strict rules, but they are allowed to move freely around the island.

The government wants to try to at least partially strengthen the tourism sector again after business collapsed due to the corona crisis.
