A Catholic priest was murdered in France on Monday.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that the clergyman had been the victim of a "dramatic murder" in the Vendée department.
He is on his way to the region, said Darmanin.
A man turned himself in to the police in the morning and confessed to the act, reported the AFP news agency, citing judicial circles.
Accordingly, the man had been placed under judicial supervision in the course of the investigation into the fire in Nantes Cathedral in July 2020.
The church was badly damaged in a fire.
A volunteer community servant, then 39, confessed to starting the fire.
The same man had now gone to the police in Mortagne-sur-Sèvre, about 60 kilometers from Nantes, and said he had killed a clergyman, it said.
