Inail: in the first half of 2021 + 11% fatal injuries on 2019

(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 10 - Injuries at work with a fatal outcome increased by 11.6% on the same period of 2019.


   This is what can be inferred from the Inail data, data which, however, for the period 2021 under consideration are still affected by the effects of the pandemic.


   In the first half of this year (similarly to the monthly survey as of May 31), there was an increase in accident reports of 8.9% overall and a 41.9% growth in lung diseases compared to the same period of 2020, but still a reduction compared to 2019 (-17.6% for accidents and -11.4% for diseases). Compared to 2019, 2021 shows a decrease in both accidents at work and in itinere (-15.0% and -32.9% respectively) and for both sexes (although more marked for men). Moving on to fatal cases, in the first six months of 2021 (compared to the very high increase recorded in the first 5 months, with +2 cases) deaths decreased again compared to 2020 (-5.6%, -32 cases).The decrease recorded between 2021 and 2020 is the synthesis of an increase of 9 deaths from accidents while traveling and of 41 cases among those during work. They increase (similarly to the first 5 months) in comparison with 2019 (+ 11.6%, 56 more deaths), due to Covid which is still affecting the year 2021. For occupational diseases, the first 6 months of this year show a 41.9% increase in reported diseases compared to the same period in 2020, but still a reduction (-11.4%) compared to 2019.
