Jamie Spears has agreed to step down from his longstanding role as guardian of his daughter Britney.
This was announced by Jamie Spears' legal team, as reported by numerous US media, including the New York Times, Variety and TMZ.
It is a triumph for the 39-year-old singer, who has been fighting for self-determination for a long time.
Her father was her guardian for more than 13 years and determined her private and professional life.
"We're delighted that Mr. Spears and his attorney admitted in a statement today that he must be deposed," Britney Spears' attorney, Mathew Rosengart, said in a statement.
It was only in early July that a court rejected Britney Spears' motion to replace her father.
She tried again - with a new lawyer.
A court hearing to discuss her request has been scheduled for late September in Los Angeles.
Jamie Spears' lawyers have now said, according to media reports, there are no reasons for the removal of Jamie Spears as guardian, "but he does not believe that a public dispute with his daughter about his continued service as a guardian would be in her best interests."
It goes on to say that he wants to work with the court and his daughter's new lawyer "to prepare an orderly transition to a new guardian."
Britney Spears remains under the care of a personal guardian, Attorney Jodi Montgomery.
The case has received a lot of attention in recent months: During the process, stars such as Courtney Love, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and Madonna had expressed their support for the singer.
