Jamie Spears wants to resign as guardian of his daughter Britney Spears.
This news is not only good news for the pop singer, but also for celebrity friends.
Reality star Paris Hilton, who has long been friends with Britney Spears, was enthusiastic.
She was "so happy," wrote the 40-year-old on Twitter.
“It was so long overdue.” She was glad “that Britney is on her way to finally being free”.
Hilton provided her tweet with the well-known hashtag #FreeBritney and a link to a report in the "New York Times".
Singer Cher commented that she "couldn't be happier."
Britney Spears herself posted a painted picture on Instagram without further comment showing a woman from behind.
She wears flowers in her hair and a butterfly flies over her shoulder.
The make-up artist and entrepreneur Angel Merino commented on the picture with the words: "We are one step further on the way to your freedom".
Numerous fans of the singer celebrated the news.
US media had previously unanimously reported that Jamie Spears had announced his withdrawal to the competent court in Los Angeles on Thursday.
His lawyer cited the "public quarrel" with the daughter as one of the reasons for the father's decision.
Britney Spears' attorney Mathew Rosengart saw this as a great win for his client.
Jamie Spears should resign immediately, he said in a statement published by the industry journal Variety.
13 years of guardianship
The singer has been under her father's tutelage since 2008 after she collapsed psychologically due to personal and professional problems.
At first, Jamie Spears managed his daughter's wealth and personal affairs.
In 2019 he stepped down, but remained responsible for finances.
The singer's personal needs, including medical issues, are handled as co-guardian Jodi Montgomery.
At two court hearings in June and July, the singer violently attacked her father in emotional speeches and raised allegations against her family, carers and lawyers.
Spears gets support from many celebrity friends and fans who stand up for the singer under the hashtag #FreeBritney.
“We love you Britney !!!
Stay strong, ”wrote pop star Mariah Carey after the court hearing in June on Twitter.
Her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Courtney Love and the rapper Iggy Azalea also sent messages.
