The fire ravaging the Massif des Maures (Var) took a dramatic turn on Wednesday.

A 32-year-old woman is still missing.

And, according to a provisional report, five firefighters and 22 people were slightly injured, mostly from poisoning.

The fire was not yet under control this Wednesday morning, according to the prefecture, and 1,200 firefighters were still hard at work.

The flames have already burned more than 4,000 hectares.

But the Var is not the only department affected in the south of France.

In the Vaucluse, more than 300 firefighters were still fighting a fire which broke out during the night from Monday to Tuesday and revived this Wednesday morning, due to the strong mistral.

At least six of them were slightly injured and several homes had to be evacuated.

A fire, which seriously injured firefighters, was also still in progress in the Aude.

What to also remember

  • Evacuations from Afghanistan continue.

During this night from Tuesday to Wednesday, France exfiltrated from Afghanistan 216 people - including 25 French and 184 Afghans "from civil society in need of protection", according to Jean-Yves Le Drian.

The plane carrying them left Kabul for Abu Dhabi overnight.

These passengers are expected in France during the day.

On Tuesday, the first people evacuated from Afghanistan (around forty French and foreign nationals from “partner countries”) arrived in France, after a visit to the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Another rotation is scheduled for midday to evacuate an equivalent number of people.

  • Terrorist fires in Algeria?

For more than a week, Kabylia, in northern Algeria, has been ravaged by numerous fires, which have claimed nearly 100 victims, including more than 30 firefighters. Last Saturday, a man suspected by residents of having caused a fire was lynched to death. So far, the authorities have dismissed any responsibility on his part, but have admitted that most of the fires were of arson. Their suspicions are on "a criminal network, classified as a terrorist organization", the MAK (movement for the self-determination of Kabylia) banned in Algeria and based in Paris.

  • Shooting in Grenoble.

A new news item shook the city of Grenoble on Tuesday evening.

A shooting broke out near the station, in the Saint-Bruno district.

Two people were targeted by gunfire, by a man riding a scooter, while they were in front of a brewery.

One of them, aged 29, was hospitalized in absolute urgency, the second, aged 25, in relative urgency.

    Many witnesses witnessed the scene.

The unexpected info

This would be a historic breakthrough.

An American laboratory has just reported having carried out, in early August, a nuclear fusion experiment during which scientists succeeded in producing a very hot spot "generating more than 10 quadrillion watts" on a target "the size of a lead. »Thanks to 192 lasers. They thus approached as never before the ignition threshold, that is to say the moment when the energy produced exceeds that used to cause the reaction. Nuclear fusion is considered, by its supporters, as the energy of the future, since it has the advantage of producing little waste and no greenhouse gases.
