Since last June, when 228 Afghans were brought to our country with the Aquila 1 operation, over 3,350 citizens have been rescued, about 1,990 have already arrived in Italy (of which 547 women and 667 children) in the last few days and about 1,300 at the Kabul airport waiting to leave.
This is what is learned from the Defense, on the sidelines of Minister Lorenzo Guerini's visit to the Covi, the Joint Chief Operating Officer.
The Defense fielded 8 aircraft for operation Aquila Omnia, which took over from Operation Aquila 1, planned and directed by Covi: 4 KC767s that alternate between the area of operation and Italy and 4 C130Js, the latter located in Kuwait, from where the airlift to Kabul departs.
More than 1,500 Italian soldiers from the Joint Forces Summit Operational Command are involved in this complex operation for the Rome-Kabul airlift at the request of the Minister of Defense.
