The Delta variant

The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, spoke about the situation of the Delta variant after the first fatal cases were known in the country.

In radio statements, he affirmed that "to date it is not yet predominant, but

it is already close to being a community

".

He also specified that "in Córdoba and in the city of Buenos Aires

there are some cases that have no relationship between them

. Especially in Córdoba, which had not found a link with a traveler."

This Tuesday the second death from the Delta variant of the coronavirus was confirmed at the Rawson hospital in Córdoba.

And he added that "when a link is not found between the cases or with a traveler, it is said to be communal, but that does not mean that it is predominant. For now, the predominant variant in Argentina is Manaus."

This Monday the death of a 38-year-old woman in Córdoba, the second fatal victim by Delta in the country, was confirmed.

He had been infected by being close contact of the "zero patient", 62, who had traveled to Peru and did not fulfill the isolation upon returning to the country.

The man passed away on Sunday.

Vaccines

This Tuesday a flight will arrive from Russia that brings

a new shipment of the active principle

for the formulation in the country of

Sputnik V

vaccines

.

As confirmed by the Ministry of Health, there will be serum to package

both components

, although the amount was not specified.

Vizzoti also anticipated that this week the release of ANMAT of "around 600 thousand doses of component 2 from Richmond to distribute" is expected.

And he added that AstraZeneca announced that before the end of the month "we will be receiving 2.2 million doses."

As of this morning, 43,823,234 doses had been distributed to the provinces, of which

4.6 million remain to be applied

.

To this is added that there are about 4 million more to be sent from the Nation to the provinces.

This stock of unapplied doses was harshly criticized by the infectologist Eduardo López, one of the experts who advises the Government.

"It is outrageous. Because having 5 million doses stored in the refrigerator

is a failure of the system

of those who have to administer vaccines. The best vaccine is the one that is placed in the arm and the worst is the one that is not placed. It is a problem that the jurisdictions could not explain, "said López.

A total of 27,218,267 people received at least one vaccine.

This represents

59.42%

of the population, out of the 45,808,747 inhabitants estimated by INDEC this year.

Within the total number of vaccinated, 11,973,481 people are included who also received the second dose with which the immunization schedule is completed.

That is,

26.14%

of the population.

According to official sources,

62.5%

of people over 50 have both doses applied, which is why the goal set for August (60%) by the national health portfolio together with CoNaIn, the Committee of Experts was reached. and the Federal Health Council.
