Samsung's new folding smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3, are recording very high numbers in the presale phase in Korea.
According to the data mentioned by The Korea Herald, the two models have obtained a total of 450,000 pre-orders, from August 17, the day of opening for reservations, to yesterday, Sunday.
The booking phase in Korea will end today, while shipments will start tomorrow. Analysts are expecting even higher numbers, such as to be able to surpass the 600,000 units in presale. Samsung's previous foldable phone model, the Galaxy Z Fold2, had reached a total of 80,000 units in pre-order. The new foldables do even better than the recent 'traditional' top of the range. The pre-orders are double those of the Galaxy S21 and one and a half times those related to the Galaxy Note 20, launched last August. According to the statistics of a Korean mobile operator, half of the users interested in the Fold3 belong to the age group between 20 and 30 years, while the same is representative of 57% of those who have chosen a Galaxy Z Flip3.
One of the main reasons for opening up to younger consumers is definitely the lower price for both devices. In Korea, the Galaxy Z Fold3 256GB costs 16.6% less than the Fold2, or 1.9 million won. The Z Flip3 is priced even lower, with less than 1.3 million won required to purchase. In Italy, the Z Fold3 starts at 1,849 euros while the 'clamshell' model has a basic price tag of 1,099 euros.
