Uruguay

opened the borders

for foreigners with properties in the country who are

vaccinated and have a negative PCR

for coronavirus as of this Wednesday.

The news is good for Argentine owners.

But not enough.

From the association that brings them together, they are pressing so that they

do not charge the real estate taxes of the last year and a half

, since they could not enjoy their homes due to the closed borders.

Norberto Mariani,

head of the

Association of Argentine Owners in Uruguay

that brings together some three thousand property owners, welcomed the initiative of the Uruguayan president, Luis Lacalle Pou, but raised the demand.

"We believe that we spent a year and a half without being able to use our properties and we would have to be exempted from all the payment of the property tax (the local real estate tax). Everything, complete.

Do not come with 'chirolitas'

, speaking in Creole. Why not corresponds, "Mariani told the local channel Telemundo.

"It is

the least that Uruguay could do for us

, who bet on Uruguay and to continue trusting Uruguay," he continued.

According to data from the local tourism ministry, around

90,000 Argentines

have properties in Uruguay, of which

between 30,000 and 40,000 are in Maldonado

.

Speaking to

the Uruguayan television

program "

Buen día

", Mariani said that 95% of Argentines who will cross the border to go to Punta del Este have

already been vaccinated

.

"It is true that many people under 18 years of age are not. Uruguay's proposing is very good that those families who arrive with minors should quarantine. It is logical," said Mariani.

The mayor of Maldonado had announced that Argentine owners will not be charged a fine for delays and will keep the benefits of a good payer, but for Mariani that is not enough.

"We Argentines, unlike Uruguayans, have not been able - by decree - to use our properties. We have not been able to go to Uruguay and use or rent the properties," he said, adding that in Punta del Este "70% of the register is foreign ".

And followed.

"It does not happen in any country in Europe, no Spanish has properties in Monaco, or in Nice, or in Cannes or in Menton. No city is occupied by

70% of foreigners who invested in that place

. We say that we always invest and pay ".

Then he said that the good attitude of Luis Eduardo Pereira, general secretary of the Maldonado Intendance, to remove the mutation for not being able to pay in full for not being able to go is very good: "

But we are not satisfied,

" he claimed.

This Wednesday Uruguay opened the borders so that vaccinated foreigners who have properties, as well as their first and even second degree relatives, can enter.

In order to do so, tourists will first have to complete an online procedure.

According to the local newspaper El País, it is expected that by November the borders can be opened to all foreigners who are vaccinated, whether or not they have property in Uruguay.
