(ANSA) - MADRID, 02 SEP - The damage is counted and there is an effort to return to normal as soon as possible in different locations in the center and east and south-east of Spain: these are the areas most affected in the past hours by intense and sudden rainfall that they caused flooding of streets, houses, garages and businesses and left behind auto caps, felled trees and mud and dirt on all sides.
"The national system of Civil Protection"; Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said today, "he is working non-stop to protect citizens and to recover normality as soon as possible".
This is what the local media show today, which collect various testimonies from people affected by the emergency and who now, after the initial fear and shock, now despair over the material consequences and total losses of millions of euros.
Only in Alcanar, a town in the province of Tarragona (Catalonia) which was almost completely overwhelmed yesterday by rivers of water and rain during a sudden storm, is it estimated that the damage amounted to 16 million euros, according to what is reported by the public television Tve.
So far, no victims have been registered, although several emergency interventions have been necessary to rescue people who have been stranded in dangerous situations.
The weather alert remains active for some areas of the center and north of the country even today. (HANDLE).
