There were two seriously injured people on Saturday afternoon in a knife attack in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf.
According to initial reports, a man had stabbed a gardener working in the facility and then a passer-by hurrying to help.
Both victims were injured in the neck, the 58-year-old landscape gardener was initially in mortal danger, according to the police.
Like the 66-year-old passerby, she was taken to the hospital and operated on there.
According to the investigators, the alleged perpetrator is a 29-year-old with Afghan nationality.
He was arrested by arriving police officers at the scene and is said to be mentally ill.
The Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Security Service of the State Criminal Police Office are now investigating the reasons for the crime, "also from the perspective of a possible Islamist-motivated attack," the police said.
The accused is to be brought before an investigating judge on Sunday.
