"Buddy - The Christmas Elf" is one of the top-selling comedies of the millennia, with actor Will Ferrell in the lead role.

The Christmas comedy grossed $ 220 million at the box office in 2003.

After that, a sequel was actually planned.

Ferrell would have received a fee of 29 million US dollars for this.

The actor decided against it anyway.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter film portal, Ferrell explained why: “I should have promoted the film in an honest way, using words like: It [the film] is not good.

I just couldn't refuse that much money. ”The decision was not difficult for him.

“I thought, 'Can I really say these words?

I don't think I can do that.

So I guess I can't do the film.

Instead, other comedies such as "Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy" and "Ricky Bobby - King of Racing Drivers" followed.

For "Anchorman" Ferrell wrote the script for a sequel, as he says in the interview, "which was worth it".

In a conversation with the British newspaper "The Guardian", Ferrell announced in 2006 that he had discarded a sequel to the comedy "Buddy - The Christmas Elf" despite millions in pay.

Even then, Ferrell made it known that he "didn't like" the idea of a sequel: "$ 29 million seems like a lot of money for a guy who wears tights," Ferrell said.

"But that's what the market has to offer." The film studios made it difficult to say no.

"It's crazy, but it's not my choice."
