(ANSA) - BEIJING, OCTOBER 29 - South Korean President MoonJae-in has asked Pope Francis to visit North Korea to bring peace to the peninsula, obtaining a positive response from the pontiff, as reported by Presidential spokesman Park Kyung-mee.
"If the pontiff visits the North when the opportunity presents itself, it will be an impetus for peace in the Korean peninsula," Moon told the pope, according to the Yonhap news agency report.
The pope encouraged Moon, saying he was willing "to go there for peace and help all of you if North Korea sends a letter of invitation," Park added.
