Every tourist who lands in the Eternal City has on his list of things to do and see in Rome a visit to the famous Trevi Fountain and throwing a coin into the tub, with his back to the monument. Some sources agree that it was the well-known German archaeologist of the nineteenth century, Wolfgang Helbig, who started this gesture, which later became a tradition, who, on leaving Rome after a long stay, decided to throw an old coin into the basin of the Trevi Fountain as good omen to return soon to the city of the Popes.

The 1 euro coin thrown by the leaders of the G20 in the Trevi Fountain was minted specifically for the G20 with the Vitruvian Man, symbol of the Summit, engraved.

Many onlookers looking out from the terraces and windows of the buildings surrounding the monument.

Relaxed the atmosphere among the leaders who exchanged smiles and chatter.

After the coin tossed, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, smiling, rinsed her hands in the fountain.
