Mexicans light candles and perform songs on Day of the Dead in Mexico City to pay tribute to trans women killed in the country.
Mexico is the second deadliest country for transgender people after Brazil, according to NGOs Letra S and Transgender Europe.
In 2019, 117 lesbian, gay, bi and trans people were killed in Mexico, almost a third more than in 2018 and the highest number since 2015, according to LGBTQ + advocacy group Letra S. More half of the victims were transgender women, while almost a third were gay men.

With these celebrations, the LGBTQ + community wants the slain Mexican transgender women not to be forgotten.
