At 221 kilometers per hour, a driver sped through the Hamburg Elbe Tunnel shortly after midnight on Friday.
80 kilometers per hour are permitted there on Autobahn 7.
First of all, the 35-year-old had overtaken a civil police police station, which was equipped with video surveillance, the officials said.
The police then began taking measurements.
At least 1200 euros fine
When entering the Elbe Tunnel, the driver reportedly accelerated his 245 hp Audi to more than 170 kilometers per hour.
After overtaking two box vans, the 35-year-old stepped on the accelerator and still reached the documented 221 kilometers per hour in the tunnel, it was said.
According to the police, the speeder overtook another vehicle in the right lane in the tunnel.
The officers finally stopped him and checked him out.
The driver can expect a fine of at least 1200 euros, a three-month driving ban and two points in the register of fitness to drive.
