From the Breibert website, once run by Donald Trump's adviser Steve Bannon, to some Russian media, there are ten people on Facebook who are the most active in spreading fake climate news.

This is the examination made by the Center for Counter Digital Hate (Ccdh), a non-profit organization that fights online disinformation that defines them as the "super polluters" of the network.

The result of the study can be explained in two figures: 69% of the contents published on the social network that deny climate change can be attributed to 10 'editors'.

More specifically, the list includes Breitbart but also Western Journal, a conservative news site, and Newsmax, already sued for spreading conspiracy theories on the 2020 US presidential election. Then Media Research Center, an Exxon-funded think tank , and The Federalist Paper, a site that in its past has also promoted disinformation on the Covid-19 pandemic; Russian state media via RT.com and Sputnik News For discussion, the nonprofit used a social media analytics tool called NewsWhip which allowed it to review 6,983 articles denying the climate crisis shared on Facebook in over the last year, with related interactions recorded by these posts (over 700 thousand).

The authors of the study also point the index against Facebook that hosts the content and should reject it or label it as misleading more diligently.

However, the social network denies the reliability of the results of this research, saying that the methodology used is imperfect and that the platform is committed to combating disinformation on the climate.
