These pedophile acts, the extent of which was brought to light last month, "were made possible by a general context, operations, mentalities, practices within the Church", underlined Mgr Éric de Moulins- Beaufort.
"This responsibility entails a duty of justice and reparation," he added.
According to the estimates of the Sauvé report, which was unveiled in early October after two and a half years of work, between 165,000 and 270,000 children and adolescents who have been victims of sexual violence within the Church.
This figure even rises to 330,000 if we include what happened in her boarding schools, scout camps and other childcare facilities for which she was responsible.
