Man confesses to "Truth or Dare" murder

In 2018 a man will be asked about his darkest secret in "Truth or Dare". He reported killing his step-grandmother. Nevertheless, it was a long time before he was investigated.

In the UK, a student has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his step-grandmother.

The fact that he was even on trial for her death was mainly due to his mouth.

The 21-year-old confessed to the murder of the 94-year-old in a game of "truth or dare".

In the party game, the person whose turn it is must decide whether to answer a question or to complete a task.

During the game, the man was asked about his darkest secret by two friends just a short time after the crime in May 2018.

"I think I killed someone," he said - and when asked, said that he set the curtains on fire because he wanted his step-grandmother, who had dementia, to stop suffering.

Before he started the fire, he turned off the fire alarm, the BBC reported.

Investigations after therapy hour

Despite this admission, it was a long time before the young man was also targeted by the investigators.

The friends didn't believe him, they thought the story was a bad joke.

The fire brigade also initially assumed an accident in which the elderly woman had forgotten a lit cigarette.

The woman died at her home in Heysham, Lancashire.

It wasn't until the man repeated his confession in a therapy session almost a year later that the case was reopened.

After the confession, the investigators came across drawings of the apartment, written entries on mobile phones and laptops, and Internet searches that pointed to the crime.

According to the BBC, the notes had headings such as "good hiding place" and included indications that he needed a good alibi.

In the trial, the defendant denied the allegations as a misunderstanding.

When he was 17 at the time, he wanted to impress his friends.

But a jury saw clear evidence of his perpetration.

The Preston court found him guilty, so he has been behind bars for at least 15 years.
