(ANSA) - MADRID, NOV 22 - The Canary Islands authorities have ordered part of the population of the municipality of Tazacorte, on the island of La Palma, to stay indoors after a lava flow from the Cumbre Vieja volcano reaches the sea.
The order is aimed at around 3,000 people, according to radio Cadena Ser and the newspaper El País.
This is a measure taken as a precaution because the contact between the magma and sea water could cause "gas emissions harmful to health", the authorities explained.
Meanwhile, La Palma airport remains "non-operational" for the moment due to the accumulation of volcanic ash on the runways.
